Have a Happy and Healthy Halloween!

Halloween is officially here and that means scary movies, pumpkin carving, and hopefully more treats than tricks. We all love enjoying candy every now and then, but we don’t necessarily love how it makes us feel or the weight we might put on. As we prepare for the holiday season, weight gain is increasingly common (and frustrating). Here are our tips to help you enjoy a healthy and happy Halloween.

Create Your own Concoctions

The only way for you to really know what you’re eating is to simply make it yourself. When you buy treats at the store, they are probably loaded with preservatives, empty calories, and sugar — none of which do anything positive for your health. With a little creativity (and maybe some inspiration from Pinterest), you can make your own Halloween goodies with healthier ingredients and fewer calories. If you have kids, this is a great time to get them to help you in the kitchen. They’ll have a scary good time helping you!

Set A Limit

We know skipping Halloween candy isn’t for everyone, and that’s okay. This year, try setting a limit for both you and your kids on how much candy you can consume each day. You should also set a time limit for how long the candy can stay in the house, which will keep you from snacking on fun-size bars through Thanksgiving. Once that time is up, be it days or weeks, throw your leftover candy away or bring it to school or work for others to enjoy.

Get in the Spooky Spirit

Halloween isn’t just about eating candy. If you want to get into the spooky spirit but keep your health on track, focus on celebrating the other aspects of Halloween. Get extra creative with your costume, have a scary movie marathon, and decorate your house. Sometimes candy isn’t what you truly want out of Halloween, it’s just enjoying the festivities.

Halloween is a fun holiday but can be unhealthy if you aren’t careful. As beneficial as chiropractic is, it works best when you put in the time to maintain a healthy body. So allow yourself to have fun this Halloween, but keep your health in mind.
